To combat the Corona virus and to curb the pandemic situation in India, on March 23, 2020, the Prime Minister of India announced a 21-day lockdown to flatten the curve of COVID-19 infections in the country. And further, our Indian government has ramped up safety measures and precautions to contain the deadly disease and extended the lockdown up to May 29, 2020, to further control the spread of COVID-19. The worldwide spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has severely affected the global economy and specifically in developing countries like India, the coronavirus pandemic has affected the situation of orphan & semi-orphan children, old people, the daily wage labourers who are migrated from other states and most of the women, who are deserted, widowed, divorced and have taken on the responsibility of children and the family. -SWARD identified the target group of Child Care Institutions and the Old Age Homes in Hyderabad and Rangareddy Districts, who are in urge looking for support of the livelihood during this pandemic situation -This is a worst-case scenario for employees who don’t have a regular salary and are working in informal sector such as building construction, domestic help, brick industry, rag picking, etc. For these workers, the virus outbreak has meant a loss of livelihood and the helplessness to provide minimal meal to their families. SWARD working in Sangareddy District have a note of the migrated families from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh living in the huge slum of Naryana Reddy Colony and Indira Nagar Colony, Sangareddy. - The single women headed families are not in a position to support the needs of their children and elderly people due to “no work and no money”. - SWARD identified, Aayas and Chowkidhars of Sishu Vihar of Hyderabad District are working since the honorarium they get is very less and they don't - fall under the ambit of other benefits are going through tough phase during this COVID 19 as their spouses and children were out of work due to lockdown; - Women survivors of domestic violence and women who are in distress of various kinds of violence from family and outside the family visits our Sakhi OSC from all over the villages of 25 Mandals of Sangareddy District for relief from violence situation. These survivors will visit our Sakhi OSC are in need of groceries to support their livelihood for survival during COVID-19 lockdown. To combat the corona virus and to curb the pandemic situation, as a social responsibility SWARD in-collaboration with Azim Premji Philanthropy, APMASS and My Choices Foundation initiated community awareness & interim relief measures covering most needy in Siddipet, Sangareddy and twin cities Secundrabad and Hyderabad. SWARD distributed food grains, grocery, hygiene kits, and other necessary commodities to GBV survivors, domestic workers, brick-kiln workers, daily wage construction workers, Dommara Community (nomadic tribes) and migrant workers, supported 7,464 families, 22 childcare centres, and 8 old-age homes and 3211 families.
